Greying hair is part of aging and you do not have to feel bad about it. It happens to many people and is honestly just part of life. If you are not ready to embrace the grey that is totally understandable. Coloring is a great option that can help make you feel younger and more confident. However, there are some ingredients that you want to stay away from. Today we are going to highlight a few of those harmful ingredients and outline why you should stay far away from them.

Ammonia is one of the most toxic ingredients found in hair dye. Ammonia is often required because it allows the color to penetrate the hair cuticle. Over time, this can lead to dry and damaged hair as well as irritation to other parts of your head. People have suffered from allergic reactions in their throat and respiratory systems from exposure to ammonia.

Stay away from this ingredient because it can do more than just damage your hair. Stay away from Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) as well. PPD is used to remove hair’s existing pigment, which allows the new color to take its place. PPD is used pervasively because it provides long-lasting hair color that has a natural look. Although this ingredient is effective it is known to cause severe irritation to the skin. If your skin is really sensitive you could get eczema on parts of your face like your eyelids or your ears. Bottom line is to try and avoid PPD if you can.

Last but not least please stay away from resorcinol. Resorcinol is classified as a hazardous chemical because it is combustible, can cause abdominal paid when inhaled, and causes redness when it contacts the skin. On top of all of that, research shows that resorcinol is a hormone disruptor with the potential to cause thyroid dysfunction and affect your central nervous system. Resorcinol is one of the worst ingredients in hair dyes and should be avoided at all costs.

These ingredients can do some real damage if you are not careful. Trying to get rid of your grey is fine but using these ingredients is not. The best thing you can do is get your hair dyed professionally. Hair stylists know how to do it the right way and what products to use.
